Education

In collaboration with other groups at MTM and at other departments, we offer the following educational programs:

B.Sc.Eng. Mechanical and materials engineering (link)
B.Sc.Eng. Product development and design (link)
Courses within these programs are taught mainly in Swedish.
These programs prepare students for careers in engineering. Each program includes a base component of mechanical engineering with extended coverage of materials science or product development, respectively. The programs conclude with a 15 credit thesis project, often performed as internships with various companies. Graduates are qualified for entry-level engineering positions or for continuing education at master level, including our CMS program. Inquiries can be made to the Program Coordinator Ulf Hejman.

M.Sc. Computational Materials Science (link)
The 2-year CMS program, taught in English, combines advanced coverage of materials science with programming and computational methods. Fundamental topics are covered as well as advanced materials modeling techniques at the continuum, atomistic and quantum levels. Dedicated courses are offered in Finite Element Methods (FEM), classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) and Density Functional Theory (DFT). The program concludes with a 30 credit thesis project, performed either in collaboration with MTM researchers or as internships at companies. Applications are made through the national portal universityadmissions.se (search for “computational materials science”). Inquiries can be addressed to the Program Coordinator, Lindsay R. Merte.

Ph.D. Applied Physics (link)
Ph.D. students in our group are most often enrolled in the Applied Physics program, hosted by MTM. This interdisciplinary doctoral program, taking 4-5 years to complete, is based on research performed in collaboration with scientists at MaU and elsewhere as well as 60 credits of coursework. A 2-year research program concluding with the “licentiate” degree is offered as well. Positions in these programs are opened when funding becomes available, and application is made via the central MaU recruitment portal. Prospective students should contact the relevant senior researcher directly. General inquiries about the program can be made to the Director of Studies, Henrik Hartman.
